Ascent Hockey Night '11

Created by Tyler Gahagan on 03/31/2011 05:00 pm

Ascent Builders had our third annual hockey night with the Stockton Thunder last Friday night. The evening started at the fine dining establishment, Mr. D's Pizza, for some delicious pizza and drinks. After our stomachs were full, we all walked over to the Arena for the game.

The game recap goes something like this:

Stockton got themselves in early penalty trouble with a 5 on 3 power play that the Salmon Kings capitalized on with a couple in the net. After that, everything seemed to swing back in the Thunder's favor with a couple of fights and five uncontested goals, making the count 5-2 in the Thunder's favor. Unfortunately, the Salmon Kings rallied and came back. The score was tied 6-6 at the end of regulation. The 4 on 4, sudden death overtime didn't yield a victor, so it went to a shootout. That's when the goalies finally decided to show up to the game stoning players in four rounds before the Salmon Kings ended the game on a wrist shot to the blocker side of the Thunder's goalie in the bottom of the fifth round.

If I remember correctly, the second annual Ascent hockey night ended on a buzzer beating goal to quiet the thunder. Needless to say, next year I'll be placing a bet on the other team as we seem to be a jinx for Stockton.

All in all, it was a great night.

Celebrating Christmas together v11.0

Created 12/08/2010 08:00 am

Wow.  That's the best way to describe the 11th annual Ascent Builders Christmas Party.  Every one of our "Yule Tide" get-togethers has been special but this year we really were "Home for Christmas" as we enjoyed dinner, decorations and Christmas cheer in our new "home" at 14th and S.

While the space was a big hit the true bell of the ball was Patty McElwain as we all celebrated her 10th year at Ascent. In addition to the annual "Christmas Show", Mark and Scott presented Patty with a beautiful clock and a video full of memories and well wishes from everyone in the Ascent Family.

The evening ended with a raucous "white elephant" gift exchange and the warmth that comes from sharing an evening with friends...  make that family.

The 5th Annual Family Camp-Out was a rousing success !!!

This was our third year at the Sly Park Recreation Area with a campsite set about 100 yards above Jenkins Reservoir.  Folks drifted in and out throughout the weekend with 35 campers. day-campers and 10 dogs dining in style on tri-tip, chicken, ribs, sausage and all the fix'ns at the annual Dan-Roy-B-Que on Saturday night.  As usual, Dan had plenty of help from his faithful sous chef's Dave Edwards and Brian Hartsough but everyone pitched in one way or another... even if it was only with bad advice !!!

The weekend included horse-shoes, washer toss, cribbage, tubing, swimming, a sea kayak, a canoe and an adult beverage or two.  One very noticeable change was the marked increase in travel trailers, a trend that reduced the number on tents pitched and no doubt the number of sore backs on Monday morning.

Thanks to all who made this happen and to all who came and made it special...  Wanna see some more ???  Click here to visit our photo galley,
